My partner and I cat proofed outbackyard last week. It took about 12 hours all up (most of that was attaching the poles to the fence).

I'm very happy of the outcome and how non intrusive it is!

Here's some pics!

My girls are very happy they finally get to go outside (6 months old and never been outside!) they itch to get out in the morning now but I have had to keep them inside the last few mornings as it's been raining and we are yet to landscape our backyard (just moved in!) and the backyard is a pile of mud!

It's great having a small backyard now. we used to have a massive one and I could never afford to do something like that on ALL the fences. It only cost us $100 for the netting and $150 for 13 steels posts custom bent to 35degrees and about $70 for all the little extra bits and pieces (masonary plugs, bolts, metal rings, U nails, wire, etc) so not too bad for just over $300! My 1/3rd of Rudd money spent well I wreckon! Mind you we only had to do one long fence and 1 short (back is colourbond and quite high). I think it was 25 meters all up.

I;m so proud of us... hehe...

I'm in Melbourne (Melton) and got them from a place called A S fabrications (in Melton also). Each post is 1.5m long and bent in half (75cms) to a 35 degree angle. It costs $170 for 13 posts (we got a few spare). They were by far the cheapest place, everywhere else quoted us over $500 bucks. Cat Netting I got form catnets.com.au

Looks great, well done. Watch out if you plant any trees that you keep them small and not too spreading. Will be lovely when it is all planted and they have bushes and things to hide under and play pounces. The money's well worth it for the peace of mind and savings in vet bills!

I like your plan. In fact, I'm going to show hubby the pics and see if he won't do something like that for ours. Mine keep getting out of the yard. So... the cats won't or can't get out over the netting since it's curved inward? I guess they would have to hang upside down and hoist themselves up uh?

I'm not sure which state you are in, but if you are in Victoria look at your loacl council's website (and if not, goto http://www.melton.vic.gov.au ) and check out the "Cat Proofing Fencing Guide" or whatever it's called. It's a state government publication that gives you step by step instructions on how to build it. We used it as a guide and just altered a few things to our liking (i.e we got the netting from catnets.com.au which was different size netting to what they said to use). It's a lot easier to make than how it's written. The hardest part was sourcing the steel poles at a reasonable cost, the rest was childs play!

Firstly, great job on the catting netting!

Just a couple of questions if you don't mind:

1. I've been having a look at the installation guides on various sites and they seem to recommend having a line of wire along the fence and attaching the netting to this. Is this what you did? If not, how did you attach the netting to the fence?

2. Also, there is a recommendation to thread a line of wire along the edge of the netting (ie. at the highest point) to keep it stable - did you find it necessary to do this?

Would appreciate any advice on the easiest installation.
