My 2 year old Bengal cat Balloo was apparently trapped by my neighbours who have finally admitted they dumped him on Tuesday at the Morley Galleria carpark. I am devastated. Apparently there is nothing I can do about the neighbours and all I can do is search for Balloo....which I have been doing, every day and night.
Can anyone help me?
Does anyone live near Morley? Apparently Balloo was dumped near supercheap autos at the Woolworths end of the carpark after being trapped and kept. Apparently the trapppers took his collar off.
He is sterilised and microchipped, and I love him so dearly, I am devastated that this has happened.
Balloo always had a collar on with his name and my contact details....the neighbours could have phoned me at any time if my cat's (occasional) presence in their garden upset them so much.
Can anyone help? I am doing everything I can think of.
Cassy 0412 8384 69.

Contact the local pound ,vets ,schools , put up signs and let all the people neat where they dropped him off to look out for him ..I'd also put leaflets in the local neighbourhood.
Go out late afternoon and early morning...call him ,shake food and listen ..he'll be scared and hiding during the day.

Thank you all for your support and words of encouragement. What devastates me almost as much as Balloo being missing is that apparently nothing can be done about what the neighbours did....apparently there is no 'proof' even though they admitted it to the RSPCA inspector.

If any cat lovers feel like writing to express their feelings about this,

I just can't believe they can do this and get away with it! They both feel completely justified too, as apparently Balloo had eaten some of their dog's biscuits....!

I just think it is repulsive and cruel, and cannot believe there is no law to protect cats. Everyone should be aware. I am going to keep searching for my little man, and try to get the law changed to effect protection for cats. I can understand that a property owner should be able to trap a 'nuisance' cat if all efforts have been made to contact the owner first (in my case, even though Balloo is incedibly friendly and had a collar with my details on it, no attempt was made, and I was not aware he had been on their property..), BUT the property owner should be obliged to then contact the owner, if possible, and if not, to take the cat to the cat haven or a vet.

As it stands....it seems that people are justified (and legally able) to trap and dump cats, provided there is no proof.

Horrifyingly, they are also legally able to trap and kill cats, provided they do so in a 'humane' manner. This is governed by the Animal Welfare Act 2002.

I think the law needs to change....and I want my little man home safely....I still can't believe someone could just dump a poor little cat in a carpark on a busy road. He hardly has a chance...All I can do now is hope and search.

Thank you again for your support.

I certainly hope you get your cat back.

I also hope you keep him inside once he is at home

Of course I will keep him inside if I get him back. I had never had cats before this, and had no idea at all that people could do this kind of thing, or of the best way to keep cats. Balloo is so inquisitive and wanted to explore so much I let him in the end. He never went far and was always inside at night and for his meals. The neighbours who trapped him were directly over my back fence.

Anyway, if he comes home I will of course keep him inside and make an enclosure for him to have extra freedom. I just wanted him to be happy, I didn't realise he was at such risk. The breeder I got him from had him outside from a young age, so it was hard to get him used to being indoors.

Anyway, I have certainly learnt my lesson. I would never let a cat be an outdoors cat again. It's just not safe, not in the suburbs anyway. I worried when he was out, but I never knew this could happen.

It is horrible what they did but unfortunately some people are mean and nasty and it is the reason we need to get our cats totally indoors where they will be safe. When you find him, perhaps consider installing cat proof fencing so he can still enjoy YOUR garden but he wont leave your property and therefore will be safe.

Make sure you contact the microchipping place to notify them he is missing and they will flag it so if anyone hands him in or if anyone takes him to the vet in the future, you will be contacted.

Also don't forget to put up lots of flyers around the area he was taken and dumped and put ads in the newspapers too (they are free I believe).

I really hope you find him.

Thank you Mordred. Yes, I realise that now. I just didn't know, and I only wanted him to be happy.

I have done all of the things you have suggested. I have been to every vet and to the cat haven and RSPCA. I have spoken to all the rangers and put ads in the papers and flyers and signs up everywhere, for suburbs. I have done a huge mailbox drop of several suburbs....I don't really know what else to do. I go out at night calling for him.

Anyway, I'm going to go back and look for him again now. I can't just sit here and do nothing when I don't know if he is ok. I just hope to see him again and have the chance to protect him.

Don't forget to contact the Animal Protection Society in Southern River too. I know it is a fair distance from where you are, but you just never know.

I've got everything crossed that you find him.

I hope you find your boy and that he is ok and home with you really soon. Don't give up even if it takes awhile to find him. Contact the schools and see if you can put a notice in their newsletters offer a reward but don't put in an amount. This may encourage people. Also maybe put in the add that he needs medical treatment ( a little white lie) as if anyone has him they may not be inclined to keep him if they think he is unwell.

OMG. What a horrible thing to do!
Please keep us informed. Go out at night time - night is when cats are not as scared. Daytime they are more scared.
Hope you find him soon

Sending you lots of catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif for his safe return. I have had this happen to me, so I know how helpless you feel...and how angry. But don't give up - someone out there must have seen him. Good luck.
