Wondering if going for wire internally to seperate runs but the black rope with zips for the entrances or just all rope or just all wire for cat enclosures in my cattery will be the best?
What do you prefer? Will the zips go in the rope ones and if so are they easy to replace? Or just go the wire all around?

One of my enclosures has both wire and netting incorporated into it and it works really well.

Depends who its for i have both wire and netting enclosures, if it was for a stud i would have to say wire only or if you have a dog that hates cats like mine does the netting is a worry.

Wire...small gauge like cocky wire, so it is snake proof. Netting is not secure enough and neither are zips.

As you will be on rural land I would go the mouse wire....it will solve the snake problem - and they do sometimes come inside after water....and even keeps large flies out which is a boon when you are feeding kittens.....expensive yes - but not something you have to buy more than once. I am not a fan of the mesh that is rope/cord except possibly covering over a large area that cats can't walk on..

Oh, all good points. We will have them totally enclosed in the cattery with those ventolation things on the roof that twirl about, but otherwise enclosed apart from the cat flap attachments that will go to a few outside enclosures and walkway to the house to another cat flap that will enable them to come in as they desire. The boys I will have to sort out some kind of system where they can come in too but some kind of system where they can take turns coming in.
So far Zanz doesnt spray, nor Riker yet but when they do they will still come inside but with stud pants.
I dont want snakes getting in but they find a way no doubt even if its enclosed, perhaps via the cat flap?.
I would adore photos of your enclosures for ideas or sites to have a look at, I am googling some and just am getting so many ideas.
Also what are your favorite cat furniture that you cant live without? I like the look of the deals direct dog kennels with steps and above area they can sit on top of. Might get one of these for each cat.http://www.dealsdire...balcony-ladder/

Oh thanks. Do you suggest any good replacements for a cattery set up?

I would suggest plastic kennels. i bought mine from the reject shop and they are very easy to put together and the cats like them (my stud boy prefers his chair though). They are also easy to clean if any accidents happen.

I would also go the mesh. I actually never thought about the netting with zips for inside. Mine is mesh with a painted wooden frame and was easy to build.

The wire that is suitable as snake proof (5mm squares) is quite expensive 900mm high x 30Mtrs long roll costs about $300 or the other option is to put a water container well away from the cattery as this is what they would be after.

As Marina said the plastic dog kennels are very good as to are the plastic outdoor chairs and they love them even more when their is a comfy bed in/on them.

Definitely go with the snake proof wire. Not worth the risk to not use it. Even if the water bowl is placed well away, snakes will still go into cattery runs/enclosures, if there is any access at all, as many breeders have found out the hard way. This wire gives me peace of mind every summer and autumn. The plastic kennels are great and are often available in $2 type shops.
