Finally the new cat enclosure got started today, we are enclosing about 10m down one side of the house which as you can see was never really used for anything useful. More photos to come as it all progresses. Hopefully the steel mesh roof will go on tomorrow and the wood retaining wall will in as well, weather permitting.

It's steel mesh made to order and it's being done by our landscaper ( a friend of a friend) who is actually doing our entire backyard over the next few weeks.

The current state of the cat run. Not much work done on it due to a few delays and some extremely bad weather making it hard for the guys to work. The tree stump is right outside my study window which will be the access point to the run.

Oriental cats My landscaper is happy for me to pass on his details but would prefer you wait until you have seen photos of the finished thing. He's a perfectionist. Funnily enough he is getting a lot questions about how the cat run is going from the place he bought the panels from as word is spreading.

It is looking good.......in fact very very good.

When I raised a run higher than the neighbours fence they also thought that their dog would see the cats walking near the top of the fence and bark a lot - and yes she can bark.....so they and I actually filled in the bit that went higher than the fence so no cat could possibly been seen.

She sometimes barks and I sometimes hear her snuffing at the bottom of the fence - so she knows the cats are there but mostly is very quiet. What you have built is very similar to what people build who want to cover it with shade-cloth for a fernery so they really can't have any objection but they probably had their minds run awol and scared themselves with imaginings.

It's a wonderful looking run and so sturdy! I imagine it is not cheap but the savings in vets bills and worry are definitely worth it. At first I was dismayed you had taken the tree out but I see it has just had a severe cut back and will come back in summer. We have a small tree in our (very humble by comparison) enclosure and when the 'zoomies' are on them it gets lots of use, as they can run up it and leap to a high bench/walkway.

Look forward to seeing pics of it in use. Which side of the house is it (N,S,E,W)?

Very impressive and a wonderful way to fill in a dead area of the property.
