Well, I have had the netting done for the cat enclosure and it's looking good (though a bit untidy at the moment). Now I have to work out some adventure play toys LOL. I am thinking shelves at different heights, a shadecloth hammock and a ramp of some sort. If anyone else has suggestions that were a big hit - please let me know!

Does anyone have any ideas as to what sort of wood would be good? I want something that will be fine if they use it to scratch, but can take the outside weather. I am a bit worried about which woods are treated with nasty stuff.

(Colours a little dreary as it was quite late in the day when I took the pics)

Levi has been very brave and ventured out there by himself a couple of times. Eventually there will be a catflap in a window for him to access. At the moment the laundry door is open.

My plan is to get a burmese kitten later (hopefully later this year) so the area will be a playground for Levi and his little pal.

Ironic really as I already have a humungous enclosed outdoor area, but it needs some work to restore it to totally kitten proof and also I still have the Levi/Willow stand-off issue!

Great work!
Can you tell us how you have attached the netting to the house and to the fence please?

You should use a hardwood not treated pine. Hardwood will stand up to the weather.

I actually had that bit done by Secureakat. Here are some pictures that I have taken. Most of it was attached with a cable and some hooks, and tightened with tension devices. The hooks themselves are fairly straight forward. I did talk to a netting company who was prepared to make up a kit with all the bits to install myself, and Secureakat offered to do the same.

In the end, I probably could have done it myself, but it was quicker and easier for me to have it done. I'll do all the shelves and internal stuff though.

It is reasonably big-cat proof and Willow goes out there a lot, but kittens have a way of finding the smallest gaps. I also need to do a plant inventary. My older cats (RIP) never took any interest in the plants, but I suspect I have a couple that are not safe and kittens are way more silly when it comes to eating what they shouldn't!

Ah yes I know what you mean.. I've gone a bit overboard with covering all the gaps in our new enclosure, even the small spaces that I know Tink wouldn't be able to fit through.. I just don't want her to try and get partly through and get caught. And I'll be checking carefully all the plants before they go in there too as I'm sure she'll be very keen to taste them all evil.gif

They both look sensational areas and kitten and cat will just love them.........it is always such a good idea to have the sideway netted like that - makes a somewhat useless space very very useful.

Levi loves the new area, and already I can see a difference in his confidence level, which I hope will flow through to improve his relationship with Willow!! I just need to weed a little as I don't really know what the plants are that are growing out there. I also am making a trip to Bunnings this morning to work out some play things for out there!

It was great to meet you Mordred :-) Silly me too - I had my camera in my bag and I meant to get some shots of CW people and cats if it was possible.... completely forgot!

Well, the side netted enclosure is a Work-In-Progress and it's coming along nicely and at minimal cost! I have had a glazier come in and put a cat flap in the window so there was an expense there, but everything else so far has been recycled and I think the results so far are okay!

I found a frame of a bookshelf at the recycling part of the tip that cost a whole $3 and have raided my Dad's woodpile. I also have scoured the countryside for suitable logs. My only real expense there was some brackets from Bunnings!!

Here's what I have done so far. I have some left over shade cloth so am thinking of a hammock and also am going to put a some shelves at various heights along the end of the wall under the window (like steps) and I have a long piece of wood that I am hoping to attach somehow to posts like a balancing beam for them to work along! I hope that the cats enjoy this when it's finally finished!
